At Columbus OB/GYN, your health and your baby’s health are always our top priorities. We recognize recent public discussions about the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy. After reviewing the latest evidence and professional guidance, we stand with both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) in affirming that acetaminophen is safe and effective when used as directed during pregnancy.
Please read their statements here:
Both ACOG and SMFM emphasize that acetaminophen remains the pain reliever and fever reducer of choice for pregnant patients, as untreated pain or fever can pose risks to both mother and baby. We encourage patients to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary time and to discuss any questions about medication use with Columbus OB/GYN provider.
